I’m a man and considering coming to therapy. What can I expect?

First of all, you are welcome here!
Getting started with therapy can be quite vulnerable for many people. You might wonder if your problems are "big enough," worry that you'll be expected to talk only about your feelings for an hour, or you may have absolutely no idea what to expect.
At Tandem, therapy isn't about putting you on the spot or a therapist telling you what's “wrong with you.”
It's about creating a space where you can slow down, make sense of what's been weighing on you, and figure out what comes next.
Some men come to therapy because of stress, anxiety, burnout, or relationship challenges. Others are navigating fatherhood, grief, life transitions, work pressures, or simply feeling disconnected from themselves or the people they care about. You don't need to have the perfect words or a major crisis to benefit from therapy. You can come just as you are.
At Tandem Counseling, we take a relational approach to therapy. The relationship with your therapist should be built on trust, curiosity, and collaboration. Your therapist won't expect you to have all the answers, and you won't be pressured to share more than you're ready to.
Instead, you'll work together to understand what's happening, build on your strengths, and find practical ways to move toward the life and relationships you want.
