Postpartum doesn’t end at six weeks

When most people hear the word postpartum, they picture the exhausting few weeks after a baby is born. The six-week checkup comes and goes, friends stop asking how you're doing, and life seems to expect you to be "back to normal."
In fact, many maternal mental health professionals describe the postpartum period as lasting up to two years.
While everyone's experience is different, it can take months—or longer—for your body, hormones, identity, relationships, career, and daily routines to find a new rhythm.
You may find yourself grieving parts of your old life while deeply loving your child.
You may feel overwhelmed by the constant mental load, disconnected from your partner, unsure of who you are outside of caregiving, or surprised by anxiety that seems to come out of nowhere.
You might also simply feel exhausted from carrying so much for so long.
At Tandem Counseling, we believe the postpartum season deserves far more support than our culture often provides. Whether you're struggling with postpartum anxiety or depression, adjusting to a new identity, navigating changes in your relationship, or simply wanting a place that's just for you, therapy can offer space to process, heal, and reconnect with yourself.
If you're a year—or even two years—into parenthood and still feel like you're finding your footing, you're not behind.
You're human, and you deserve support.
